One of my top criteria in choosing a hotel is that it be centrally located—I want to be able to walk out the door and be in the in the action in minutes.  I love hotels with a “sense of place” oozing personality and a high level of service.  On my last trip to Barcelona, Hotel Majestic was just that place.

Hotel Majestic is located on the  Passeig de Gracia (much like being on Michigan Avenue in Chicago) between two Gaudi sites right in the heart of Barcelona.  The Passeig de Gracia offers wide, walkable streets that feel safe any time of the day or night.  Although the Hotel Majestic was in the middle of ritzy shopping and sightseeing, it was also a walkable distance to the neighborhood of Gracia—which quickly became one of my favorite areas—offering restaurants, an authentic market, and a couple of cute bodegas (wine stores where we could have a wine tasting at 9am)…

Hotel Majestic opened in 1918.  It’s 275 guestrooms are comfortable and stylish—offering amenities such as a nespresso machine, nightly turndown service, and Bulgari bath amenities.  Virtuoso guests receive an upgrade upon arrival if available, daily buffet breakfast (more on that later) and a $100 food and beverage credit.

The hotel’s rooftop terrace offered glorious views of the city, al fresco dining, a pool, and a full bar.  When I discovered their house champagne was Riunart Blanc de Blanc, I knew I had arrived and the right place.  That food and beverage credit allowed for daily guilt-free flutes of fine champagne on the terrace.

The breakfast buffet was simply outstanding!  Cereals, Spanish charcuterie, house made yogurts, cheese, fruits, breads and a hot meal station were offered along with coffee, teas, and yes, mimosas.  The wait staff was attentive and friendly.  My breakfast plates were a thing of beauty—what a wonderful way to start the day!

The lobby bar was elegant and somewhat opulent with leather chairs and a stunning bar.  The service was attentive, yet unobtrusive.  I found it to be the perfect place to recharge after an afternoon of sightseeing and catch up on my emails and my tour books.

Next time you are in Barcelona, consider the Hotel Majestic for its location, service, and historical ambiance.  Better yet, give me a jingle so I can give you extra amenities, and like me, you can have guilt-free glasses of champagne while overlooking the bustling city of Barca.
